Coronavirus Postpones Election
We now have confirmation from the Government that the local elections due to be held on 7 May 2020 are postponed to May 2021.
For most parish and town councils in Northamptonshire the effect will be to add on another year to the already extended term of office. Existing councillors will now have a six year term. It is expected that some vacancies in Wilby will arise as those who were expecting to stand down in May go ahead with their plans. New councillors may still be sought and co-opted to maintain seven seats on the Parish Council.
However, there are big implications for Local Government Reorganisation, and for the five new parish and town councils that were due to be created on 1 April 2020 ready for the elections. Northants CALC is meeting Northampton Borough Council (NBC) on Tuesday to discuss the matter and will also seek a meeting next week with the Borough Council of Wellingborough (BCW).
We will keep you updated.
